About the press

An independent press
for working engineers.

Terminal Manuals publishes production-grade technical books, written by senior practitioners and edited like journalism. We exist in the gap between O'Reilly tutorials and academic papers — the desk-reference shelf almost nobody publishes for anymore.

Three working engineers
before publication.

Every manual is reviewed by a panel of three practicing engineers in the field. Not consultants. Not retired architects. People still carrying a pager when the chapter lands in their inbox.

  • Authors must hold the role the book is about — no “coach” or “evangelist” bylines.
  • Every claim is replayable from the code or commands printed in the manual.
  • Postmortems and case studies are sourced from real production environments, anonymized.
  • We accept editorial corrections from readers and ship updates as a free download.

No DRM, ever. The book is yours.

Every manual is delivered as a DRM-free PDF and EPUB. You can copy it onto every device you own, share a chapter with a teammate trying to fix the same incident, and read it in twenty years on whatever reader you happen to have on hand.

We do this because we are tired of paying for books we cannot move between devices. We are tired of subscriptions that revoke access. We are tired of formats with calf-leather binding and zero search.

Pay once. Read forever. Update for free.
